The West Central Peewee Wheat Kings got just one point on their two-game road trip this past weekend.

And while that tie, 1-1  on Sunday, was with the league-leading Warman Wildcats in Warman, it wasn’t one of the peewee Wheat Kings’ best games, according to their head coach.

“I don’t think we played our best hockey,” said Brett Sautner.

On Saturday, the Prince Albert Knights edged them 6-5 in Prince Albert.

The bantam Wheat Kings had the past weekend off.

The bantams are to host the Prince Albert Pirates in Kerrobert on Saturday and the Regina Aces in Dodsland on Sunday.

Carter Ralston scored unassisted for West Central in the first period in Warman. They kept that lead until early in the third period when Carsyn Dyck replied for Warman.

Tyson Borschneck tended the Wheat King goal.

Luke Brunen minded the Wildcat net.

The Wildcats “probably outplayed us,” said Sautner. “We can definitely play better than that.”

The last time the teams played, the Wheat Kings led 4-1 after two periods, he said. “We played them so that we’ve out-chanced them. This time it was the other way around,” he said.

In Prince Albert, Ethan Sautner scored a hat trick for the Wheat Kings. Ralston and Cobe Perlinger also tallied.

Ralston assisted on three goals.

Ashton Tait of the Knights also scored three times. Van Taylor, Colton Summerfeld and Lukas Robin got their other markers.

Tait had three assists and Dayne Henry, two assists.

Page Fischer and Jayden Kraus played goal for West Central and Prince Albert, respectively.

In Prince Albert, the Wheat Kings “weren’t playing their best and weren’t moving their feet,” said Sautner.

Tait is a really good player and the Wheat Kings should have shut him down, he said.

The peewee Wheat Kings are idle until Saturday, Feb. 2 when they play in Humboldt.

They and every other team in the Centre Four Peewee Hockey League qualify for the playoffs, according to information posted recently on the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League website.

The teams play three rounds of best-of-three game series with round one running from Feb. 16 to 24. The league winner plays the winner of the Saskatoon league from March 18 to 27. That winner goes on to the provincial and league final series, which runs from March 28 to April 7.
