The Wheat Kings didn’t see regular season action last weekend and wrap up their season with three games in three days this weekend.

They’ll be on the road to take on the Tisdale Ramblers (14-4-2-30) on Friday night, followed by games against the Melfort Mustangs (4-12-3-11) on Saturday and Sunday.

The Wheat Kings enter the week in third place in the Centre Four Hockey League with a record of 12-7-2 for 26 points. They’re just four points behind Tisdale and seven points behind Prince Albert in the standings.

Close behind them are the Humboldt Broncos in fourth with 25 points.

Looking ahead to the playoffs: The first-place team receives a bye in the first round, then it goes like this: 2 vs 7; 3 vs 6; 4 vs 5. All rounds are best-of-three. The first round must be completed by Feb. 25.

Bantams

The Bantams will wrap up their season this weekend, hosting two games. They will host Warman in Unity on Saturday and Moose Jaw on Sunday.

The team is tied for second place in the North Division of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey with a record of 22 wins, five losses and two ties for 46 points in 29 games played.

Prince Albert also has 46 points, but has played one more game. The Wheat Kings do have a chance to take home first place in the North Division, as the division leaders, the Saskatoon Outlaws, are just one point ahead going into the final weekend.

Last weekend, the Wheat Kings won two games and tied the other.

In their latest game, they beat the Weyburn Wings 7-1 in Rosetown on Sunday. Scoring for the Wheat Kings were Kyle Heintz and Gavin Halter-Metcalf with two goals each. Adding singles were Garin Scherr, Logan Linklater and Tylin Hilbig.

On Saturday, they defeated Humboldt 5-2 in Rosetown. Scoring for the Wheat Kings were Heintz, Scherr, Carter Cormier, Jakin Lawrence and Halter-Metcalf.

On Friday, they tied the Prince Albert Pirates 3-3. Linklater scored twice for the Wheat Kings and Tylin Hilbig added the other with just 25 seconds left in regulation. Overtime decided nothing.

Looking ahead to the playoffs: The top five teams receive a bye in the first round, which will be played Feb. 12 to 17. Round 2 will be played Feb. 22 to 28.

Midget AA girls

The Midget AA girls wrap up their season this weekend with three games in three nights. They will play the Battlefords Sharks on Friday and Saturday in Dodsland, followed by a game against the Saskatoon Chargers in Saskatoon on Sunday.

The Wheat Kings enter the week in third place with a record of nine wins, eight losses and four ties for 22 points. They have a game in hand on the Saskatoon Impact, who sit in second place with 27 points. Capturing the regular season championship is the defending league champion Saskatoon Legends, who have 39 points in 22 games played.

The Sharks, meanwhile, are in fourth place with 20 points in 22 games played, followed by the Melfort Mustangs with 19 points; Saskatoon Chargers with 17 points in 21 games played; and Prince Albert with eight points in 22 games.
