The Peewee Wheat Kings battled but in the end came up short in their playoff run.

The Wheat Kings dropped both of their games against the Tisdale Ramblers in their best-of-three semifinal series.

They lost game one, March 1st in Star City, 6-3 and fought hard in game two Saturday in Kindersley, but came up short, 4-3.

Tisdale, who finished second in the league during the regular season will take on the Prince Albert Pirates, who beat out Humboldt in their semifinals.

In the Wheat Kings latest game, Karson Blanchette started the scoring for the white and gold, putting the first goal of the game up, just 45 seconds in. However, the Ramblers answered the call with two in the first and one more in the second to make it 3-1 with just 20 minutes to go in the game.

They would add one more at the 9:06 mark of the third period, before the Wheat Kings stormed back, with Landon Nash scoring at the 8:30 mark and Carter Ralston, bringing the team within one, but there was just 24 seconds remaining in the game.

In game one, last Thursday. The Wheat Kings again jumped on the board first with goals from Brett Bahm and Blanchette in the opening frame to go up 2-0.

However, it was all Tisdale in the second, as they scored three unanswered, including two on the power play to take the lead for good.

They added one more, again on the power play early in the third period. Blanchette would reply for the Wheat Kings to make it 4-3, but the Ramblers held on and would add two more in the period to make the final 6-3.

Bantams

The West Central Wheat King Bantams are in a dogfight with Prince Albert in their Northern division semifinal series.

The Wheat Kings won game one, 4-2 in Dodsland March 3, but were doubled up in Prince Albert, 6-3 in game two, played March 6.

The two teams clash in game three tonight in Dodsland beginning at 7:30 p.m. The winner will move on to play the winner of the Humboldt and Saskatoon Outlaw series. The Outlaws were up 1-0 after a 3-2 win in game one. Game two was scheduled for this past Wednesday. Game 3, if necessary, will be played tonight.

In game two, of the Wheat Kings-Prince Albert series, Prince Albert had leads of 2-0 after one, and 3-0 after two periods of play.

In the third, they added one more to make it 4-0 early in the final frame, before the Wheat Kings hit the scoreboard.

Brody Gasmo, Kyle Heintz and Tylin Hilbig would find the back of the net to come within one of the Pirates, with 7:25 remaining in the game.

However, the home side would score two late, including an empty-netter to come away with the win and take the series to a game three.

In the opening game of the series, Tylin Hilbig would kick things off with a shorthanded marker early in the game.

The Pirates would add one on the power play late to tie things up.

In the second period, it was the same story. Carter Cormier would score for the Wheat Kings to make it 2-1, but again the Pirates would reply.

In the third, though, it was all West Central, as Jack Hartsook would break the tie early on and Kayden Ostrom would add one late on the power play to give the Wheat Kings the victory.

Midget AA Female

The Wheat Kings lost 5-4 in overtime Tuesday in Dodsland in their semifinal series against the second-place Saskatoon Impact.

Game 3 of this series was scheduled to have been played last night in Saskatoon.

No other stats were available before press time Wednesday.

In game one of this series, played last Saturday in Saskatoon, goaltender Tori Stevens, who has been red-hot as of late, stopped 37 of 39 shots to get the win in net for the Wheat Kings.

The Wheat Kings came out strong in the first and Brooklyn Rublee got the squad on the board first at the 8:02 mark of the period.

The Impact came back, however, replying in the first, and scoring the lone goal of the second, to make it 2-1.

In the third, despite, being outshot 18-4, the Wheat Kings would score three straight thanks to Tylar Clappison and Elena Smith (2) to get the win.

In the other semifinal series, the Saskatoon Legends defeated the Saskatoon Chargers in two straight games to advance to the league finals after winning by scores of 2-1 and 4-2 in game two played on Tuesday.
