The defending champion Eston Ramblers will have to win three straight if they hope to defend their Sask Valley Hockey League title.

The Elks won game one March 14 9-3 on home ice and earned a 3-2 win in Eston March 17. Game three will be played in Kyle tonight at 8 p.m. Game 4, if necessary, will be played March 28 in Eston at 8:30 p.m. Game five, if necessary, will be played March 30 at 8 p.m. in Kyle.

In game one, the Elks had a full bench and their offence was in high gear. Scoring for the Elks were Jesse Shynkaruk (2), Colby Schneider, Nelson Schneider, Casey Rempel, Dieter Gillanders, Darby Crozier, Brennan Bosovich, and Brett Boehm.

Replying for the Ramblers were Jon Aylward, Brett Howe and Brandon Kuse.

Matt Richard was solid in net for the Elks, facing 20 shots, while Tyrell King and Tanner Hewlitt shared goaltending duties for the Ramblers.

In a much closer game two, Shynkaruk, Dalton Schneider and Colby Schneider scored for the Elks, while Dustin Stevenson and Matt Owens replied for the Ramblers.

The Elks outshot the Ramblers 38-35. Richard was again in net for the Elks, while King was in net for the Ramblers.

Provincials

The Beechy Bombers defeated the Outlook Ice Hawks in their provincial B semifinal series.

The Bombers were down 1-0 in their series, but came back strong with an 11-4 win in game two and a 6-3 win in game three to advance to the provincial finals against Balcarres.

Game 1 of this series will be played in Beechy Saturday night at 8 p.m. Game 2 will be played in Balcarres March 29, followed by game three, if necessary, March 30, again in Balcarres.

In the Senior D division, Kyle defeated Radville in two straight games to advance to the provincial finals.

They won game one 5-2 in Radville and game two 4-1 back in Kyle.

They now face Edam in the provincial championships, beginning Sunday in Kyle. Game 2 will be played in Turtleford March 31, followed by game three, if necessary, back in Kyle April 1.

Games begin at 5 p.m.
