FVBL season gets going

Week 1 in the Fertile Valley Baseball League season got underway this week with a light schedule of just three games on the slate.

Game 1 was a battle of the youngest team against the oldest team in the league and in this bout, it was the young guys getting the best of their older rivals.

The Kindersley Royals defeated the Kindersley Klipper by a narrow margin, 3-2 in the opening game of the season this past Tuesday.

Game 2 was scheduled for Thursday and would see the Royals back in action against the defending league champion, Kindersley Raiders. The third game for Friday would see the Kindersley Stallions take on the Klippers tonight (Friday).

Week 2 will see all the teams hit the diamonds. Monday, May 28th will see three games including the Eatonia Wheat Kings in Elrose to take on the Aces; the Klippers will be in Outlook to take on the River Hawks and the Kindersley Cubs will battle the Kindersley Royals. All games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Kyle Yellow Jackets will be in Beechy to take on the Breakers and the Raiders will take on the Oyen Eagles. Both of these games will start at 6:30 p.m. In one other game, the Rosetown Angels will take on the Stallion in Kindersley at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, the Stallions will be in Oyen at 6:30 p.m.; Outlook will be in Kindersley to take on the Royals at 6:30 p.m. on Berard Field and the Aces will take on the Cubs on Flanagan Field beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, the Breakers will be in Rosetown to take on the Angels beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Action in the SABL well underway

The Sask-Alta Baseball League is quickly into its third week of action.

Although it’s early, the Richmound Rockets have a 2-0 record and sit atop of the standings, following play Tuesday. They showed off their offensive power in a two-game series with the Medicine Hat Vipers.

In game one at home, they earned a 23-5 win on May 17th. In game two, May 21st, it was a lot tighter, but they again came out on top in a 16-12 win in Medicine Hat.

The Rockets were scheduled to play last night at home against the Gull Lake Greyhounds. Sunday, they will play in Cabri against the River Rats and Monday, May 28th, they will be on the road again in Maple Creek.

Meanwhile, the two-time defending league champion Swift Current Yard Goats are sitting at 1-1, as of Wednesday. They kicked off this season’s schedule against the Gull Lake Greyhounds and lost 10-5 on May 10th.

They did come back to win their second game of the season, at home, a 3-2 decision over the Maple Creek Mohawks this past Tuesday.
