Sounds like a football score – but no it isn’t. It was a score in a Sask-Alta Baseball League game this week.

In a very unusually high scoring game, the Medicine Hat Vipers defeated the Climax Cardinals on their home field 43-14 Sunday afternoon – in just five innings!

The Vipers scored 12 in the first, two in the second; 10 in the third and 19 in the fourth. The Cardinals scored two in the second; two in the third and 10 in the fifth.

The Vipers scored their runs on 30 hits, while the Cardinals had just 11 hits in the game.

This was the first of two games for the Vipers on Sunday.

Following the blowout in Climax, they travelled to Shaunavon and dropped this one, 17-4.

In the one other game on May 27, the hometown Gull Lake Greyhounds defeated the Cabri River Rats 4-3.

In other games, starting on May 24, the Richmound Rockets defeated the Gull Lake Greyhounds 4-1. On May 25, the River Rats shut-out the Cardinals 7-0.

Going back to May 24, the Richmound Rockets hosted and defeated the Gull Lake Greyhounds 4-1; The Cabri River Rats shut out the Climax Cardinals 7-0 in front of a hometown crowd on May 25.

This past Monday, the Maple Creek Mohawks defeated the Richmound Rockets at home, 6-5 and the Swift Current Yard Goats tied with the River Rats, 4-4.

Tuesday, the Greyhounds beat up on the visiting Cardinals, 16-4.

Yesterday, Maple Creek was scheduled to be in Gull Lake and Shaunavon in Cabri.

Sask-Alta Games coming up: June 3 – Richmound in Climax and in Shaunavon for a road-trip double-header. June 4 – Gull Lake in Medicine Hat. June 5 – Swift Current in Climax and Medicine Hat in Maple Creek. June 6 – Shaunavon in Gull Lake. June 7 – Maple Creek in Cabri and Shaunavon will visit Swift Current.

Standings as of May 30: 1. Richmound 3-1; 2. Gull Lake 3-1; 3. Shaunavon 2-0; 4. Medicine Hat 2-3; 5. Cabri 1-1-1; 6. Swift Current 1-1-1; 7. Maple Creek 1-3 and 8. Climax 0-3.
