The Delisle Bruins have gotten off to a perfect 2-0 start after the opening weekend of the 2018-19 season for the Sask Valley Hockey League (SVHL).

A total of five games were played during the opening weekend for teams in the SVHL. Seven of the league’s 10 teams hit the ice from Nov. 2-4, and among the three teams yet to play are the two top teams from last season. The defending SVHL champion Kyle Elks and Eston Ramblers start this weekend.

The Elrose Aces are the third team that did not hit the ice for the opening weekend of the schedule, but the team has a pair of games this weekend. After the opening weekend, the SVHL announced Josh Anderson of the Lucky Lake Lakers as the player of the week.

Delisle opened at home on Nov. 2 against the Beechy Bombers and the home team won by a score of 9-4. The Bruins then travelled to Loreburn on Nov. 4 to take on the 19ers. The visitors skated to a big 10-3 road win.

The Outlook Ice Hawks had a tough opening weekend picking up a pair of losses on the road. Like the 19ers, the Ice Hawks are 0-2 to start the season. The Central Butte Flyers defeated Outlook by a score of 7-3 on Nov. 2, and the Kenaston Blizzards beat Outlook by a score of 3-2 in a close game the following night.

In other action, Loreburn was on the road in Lucky Lake on Nov. 3 and the Lakers won by a score of 7-3. After the weekend, the Bruins sit atop the standings with four points while the Lakers, Flyers and Blizzards each picked up two points.

There are six games scheduled for this weekend, including an afternoon affair in Eston on Remembrance Day. The Ramblers will host the Flyers on Nov. 11 and the game starts at 3:30 p.m. The game will be sponsored by the Eston Legion.

In the other action this weekend, Delisle is in Beechy and Elrose is in Outlook on Nov. 9 with both games starting at 8 p.m. Central Butte is in Kyle and Eston is in Lucky Lake on Nov. 10 with both games starting at 7 p.m., and Kenaston is in Elrose on Nov. 10 starting at 8 p.m.
