The Loreburn 19ers had not won a game this season going into this past weekend, and the team won both of its games to climb out of the league’s basement.

With little change at the top of the Sask Valley Hockey League standings, the big mover this past week was the 19ers after a pair of wins on the road in Elrose and Eston. The Kenaston Blizzards were also on the move, but they moved down the standings after a pair of losses.

There were three undefeated teams going into action this past weekend, but the Blizzards and Lucky Lake Lakers both picked up losses to leave the Kyle Elks as the only undefeated team left in the SVHL. The Elks have only played three games, but the defending champions have won all three of their games.

The Delisle Bruins hosted Kenaston on Nov. 21 in a mid-week Wednesday night affair, and Delisle skated away with a convincing 7-1 win in the game to move to 4-1 this season. The Bruins sit atop the SVHL standings in a tie with the Eston Ramblers (4-2).

In games on Nov. 23, Loreburn defeated the Elrose Aces by a score of 7-3 in Elrose, the Outlook Ice Hawks were at home where they doubled up Lucky Lake by a score of 6-3 and Eston went to Central Butte where the Ramblers picked up a 6-5 win in double overtime against the Flyers.

In games on Nov. 24, the Elks lambasted Kenaston by a score of 12-1 in Kyle, the Beechy Bombers downed the Flyers by a score of 7-3 in Central Butte and the 19ers defeated the Ramblers by a score of 4-3 in a close game in Eston.

Forward Jordan Walls and goalie Chase McEwen of Loreburn shared the player of the week honours. Walls put up eight points (4G, 4A) in the team’s two wins on the weekend with six points (3G, 3A) alone in Elrose. McEwen did not play in Elrose, but he stopped 59 of 62 shots to secure the team’s big win in Eston.

There are eight games in the SVHL this weekend. Tonight’s games include Beechy in Loreburn, Lucky Lake in Kenaston, Delisle in Outlook and Kyle in Eston with all of the games scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

Elrose was originally scheduled to play in Lucky Lake last weekend, but the game had to be postponed. The teams will play the game tomorrow afternoon in Lucky Lake at 3 p.m. Tomorrow’s games also include Beechy in Eston, Kenaston in Central Butte and Outlook in Kyle with all games scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
