The Delisle Bruins have moved into sole possession of first place in the Sask Valley Hockey League standings after picking up two huge wins last weekend.

A log jam at the top of the SVHL standings has been broken and there is now a bit of separation among the league’s teams. Delisle started the weekend with a big win over the defending champs from Kyle on Dec. 7, and the Bruins skated to a 5-2 win over the Elks.

Delisle took the show on the road on Dec. 8 for a match up against the Kenaston Blizzards, a team tied for third place in the standings, and the Bruins won the game by a score of 4-3. Delisle now has a record of 7-1 and 14 points so far on the season.

Kyle was undefeated until the loss in Delisle, but the Elks rebounded on Dec. 8 with decisive 12-4 win on the road against the Beechy Bombers. Kyle is now alone in second place in the standings with a record of 6-1 and 12 points this season.

In other games on Dec. 7, the Blizzards beat the Bombers by a score of 9-6 in Beechy, the Outlook Ice Hawks beat the Eston Ramblers by a score of 3-1 in Outlook, and the Central Butte Flyers beat the Loreburn 19ers by a score of 11-6 on the road in Loreburn. The Lucky Lake Lakers and Elrose Aces did not play last weekend.

Several teams have reached the halfway point of the 2018-19 season. Beechy, Central Butte, Eston and Kenaston have all played nine games of the 18-game SVHL schedule. Delisle and Kyle are the only teams with only one loss.

Eston (5-4) and Kenaston (5-4) are tied for third in the standings with 10 points. Beechy (4-5) and Lucky Lake (4-2) are tied for fifth with eight points. Central Butte (3-5-0-1) is in seventh with seven points followed by Outlook (3-5) with six points, Loreburn (2-5) with four points and Elrose (0-6).

There are eight games on the schedule this weekend. Beechy is in Elrose, Delisle is in Lucky Lake, Eston is in Kenaston and Loreburn is in Outlook for games tonight. All four games are scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

Outlook is in Beechy, Kenaston is in Loreburn and Central Butte is in Elrose for games tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The Aces have a third opportunity on the weekend to pick up their first points this season when they travel to Delisle on Dec. 16 for a matinee affair at 3:30 p.m.
