The Delisle Bruins have won six consecutive games to take an outright lead in the Sask Valley Hockey League standings. Three teams share second place.

With a record of 9-1 this season, the Bruins won a pair of games on the weekend to build a six-point cushion atop the SVHL standings. However, the defending champs from Kyle have only played seven games and the Elks are 6-1 on the season.

Delisle and Kyle are the only two teams with one loss so far. The Bruins have 18 points while the Elks, Beechy Bombers (6-5) and Eston Ramblers (6-4) are tied for second place with 12 points. The Kenaston Blizzards (5-6) round out the league’s top five teams with 10 points.

The other half of the standings include the Central Butte Flyers (4-5-0-1) in sixth place with nine points, the Outlook Ice Hawks (4-6) and Lucky Lake Lakers (4-3) are tied for seventh with eight points, the Loreburn 19ers (3-5-0-1) are ninth with seven points, and the Elrose Aces (0-9) have a firm grip on last.

The SVHL schedule is fairly light over the holidays, but there were eight games this past weekend. In four games on Dec. 14, the Bombers beat the Aces by a score of 10-4 in Elrose, the Bruins beat the Lakers by a score of 7-3 in Lucky Lake, the Ramblers beat the Blizzards by a score of 4-1 in Kenaston and the Ice Hawks beat the 19ers by a score of 4-3 in Outlook. The Ice Hawks won the game in overtime.

In three games on Dec. 15, the Bombers beat the Ice Hawks by a score of 4-3 in Beechy, the 19ers beat the Blizzards by a score of 7-3 in Loreburn and Flyers beat the Aces by a score of 8-3 in Elrose. A single game was played on Dec. 16 and the Bruins crushed the Aces by a score of 13-0 in Delisle. Tyler Peakman stopped all 23 shots to record the first shutout in any game so far this season.

Christmas is just around the corner, but there are still five games on the schedule for this weekend. Lucky Lake is in Kyle and Loreburn is in Delisle for games tonight at 8 p.m., and Central Butte is in Outlook tonight at 8:30 p.m. Beechy is in Lucky Lake tomorrow at 6 p.m., and Eston is in Kyle tomorrow at 7 p.m.
