The Kindersley Red Lions will take on the Macklin Mohawks in the second round of the SWHL playoffs beginning this Sunday.

The Sask. West Hockey League semifinals are set.

The Unity Miners will take on the Wilkie Outlaws and the Kindersley Red Lions will battle the Macklin Mohawks for their opportunity to make it to the championship finals.

The Miners, who finished fifth in the regular season standings, disposed of the Eatonia Huskies in the first round, winning 4-1 in game one and 10-7 in game two to advance.

The Outlaws finished first in the regular season standings and took care of the the Luseland Mallards, winning 12-5 in game one and 12-3 in game two.

The Miners were the only team to defeat the Outlaws, 9-5 in the final game of the regular season. The Outlaws defeated the Miners in their other three previous matches, winning 3-2 on Dec. 15, 8-4 Dec. 2 and 7-6 on Nov. 25.

This series will begin in Wilkie tonight at 8:30 p.m. Game 2 will be played Feb. 23 in Unity and game four is slated for Feb. 27. Game 5, if necessary, will be played in Unity Feb. 28 and game six, if necessary, will be played March 6 back in Wilkie.

In the other series, the Mohawks defeated the Kerrobert Tigers 12-3 in game one, but narrowly won 4-3 in overtime in game two.

The Red Lions, meanwhile, defeated Biggar 2-1 in overtime in game one and 5-1 in game two back in Kindersley.

The second-place Mohawks have had the third-place Red Lions’ number this season, winning 3-1 in Kindersley Dec. 1 and 9-8 in overtime back on Nov. 4.

The first game of this series will take place this Sunday in Macklin at 5:30 p.m. Game two will be played in Kindersley Feb. 21.

No other SWHL games have been scheduled as of yet.

Provincials

Senior A

  • Kindersley swept Shaunavon in round one, winning 5-1 and 5-4 to advance to the second round to play the winner of Lumsden/Milestone.
  • The Wilkie Outlaws defeated Hillmond in game one of their series, 8-3 Game 2 will be played Saturday. Game 3 is set for Monday in Wilkie, if necessary. The winners advances to play Hague in the second round.

Senior B

  • Unity lost to Eston 4-2 in game one of their series. Game 2 will be in Unity Saturday night.
  • Biggar received a bye in the first round and will play Beechy in the second round, March 2 in Beechy and March 3 in Biggar.

Senior C

  • Kerrobert defeated Lanigan 6-2 in their opening game. Game 2 will be played Saturday in Kerrobert.
  • Macklin lost to Hafford 4-1 in game one. Game two will be played Saturday in Macklin.
  • Eatonia received a bye in their draw. They will take on Gull Lake in their series. No schedule has been received as of yet.

Senior D

  • Luseland defeated Loreburn, 5-2 in their opening game. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday in Luseland.
