Fransoo, 25, spent the past four seasons with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

The six-foot-three, 202-pound native of North Battleford played for the Victoria Royals and Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League from 2010 to 2014. The Ottawa Senators chose Fransoo in the seventh round, 186th overall, in the 2011 National Hockey League entry draft.

In his most productive season for the Huskies, 2015-16, Fransoo scored three goals and collected 16 assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-14.

“He’s obviously got a CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sports) pedigree, so we’re expecting big things from him right out of the gate,” said Redwing head coach Keegan McAvoy.

Fransoo and other recent additions give the Redwings “a bunch of different combination options” at defence this coming season, said McAvoy.

“We’re looking forward to getting the preseason going and see who has a little bit of chemistry together,” he said.
