The Kyle Elks are the only undefeated team in the Sask Valley Hockey League. The team is tied for first despite having played the fewest games of all teams.

There are three teams tied atop the SVHL standings heading into this weekend’s games. The Delisle Bruins (5-1), Eston Ramblers (5-3) and the defending champion Elks (5-0) each have 10 points, but Eston has played as many games as any team so far.

Only the Central Butte Flyers (2-5-0-1) and Ramblers have played eight games this season. Every other team with the exception of Kyle has played six or seven games so far. Three teams are tied for fourth place with eight points, and those teams include the Beechy Bombers (4-3), Kenaston Blizzards (4-3) and Lucky Lake Lakers (4-2).

The Loreburn 19ers (2-4) and Outlook Ice Hawks (2-5) are tied for eighth in the standings while the Elrose Aces (0-6) are still looking for their first win and points this season. The league is in the midst of an 18-game schedule, so teams are already coming up on mid-season.

Last weekend was a busy one with eight games in the SVHL. On Nov. 30, the Bombers defeated the 19ers by a score of 6-5 in a close game in Loreburn, the Blizzards downed the Lakers by a score of 5-3 in Kenaston, the Bruins defeated the Ice Hawks 7-3 in Outlook and the undefeated Elks beat the Ramblers 7-3 on the road in Eston.

On Dec. 1, Lucky Lake rebounded from a loss on Friday with a 10-3 win in Elrose, Eston pulled off a convincing 10-3 win at home versus Beechy, Central Butte skated to a 5-2 win at home versus Kenaston and the Elks beat Outlook by a score 7-4 in Kyle.

There are six games on the schedule this weekend. There could be some jockeying of positions after the weekend with two big head-to-head match ups. First place is on the line when Kyle plays in Delisle tonight. Eston, the other team with 10 points, is in Outlook and both games start at 8 p.m.

Central Butte is in Loreburn in one of two other games scheduled for tonight and the game starts at 8:30 p.m. A battle of two teams at 4-3 this season takes place with Kenaston in Beechy for a game at 8 p.m. Two games on the schedule tomorrow include Kyle in Beechy at 6:30 p.m., and Delisle in Kenaston at 7 p.m.
