If you yearning for another juicy Souls game, mark the start of 2022 because Elden Ring is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X.
Set in the Lands Between, the game evolved as a collaboration between game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and fantasy novelist George R.R. Martin. After the Dark Souls trilogy and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the newest addition to Souls-type game Elden Rings finally released a gameplay trailer, and now we know more about the game.
Release Date and Development
Miyazaki is head of the FromSoftware game development company responsible for his previous Souls and other games. Songs of Ice and Fire author provided the mythical back story, and the developers work on it from there.
The release date is January 21, 2022, and Bandai Namco will publish the game. Namco is the third-largest gaming corporation in Japan behind Sony and Nintendo, ahead of Kotaku, Square-Enix, and other publishers. They own several game franchises like Tekken, Pac-Man and work for multiple platforms.
In addition, they develop pachislot and pachinko machines for video games, a Japanese version of online slots games. Most of them had a classic three-reel, one-row setup, and the winnings differ from theme to theme. Of course, Tekken and Pac-Man are some of the most famous examples.
The Gameplay
Elden Ring action RPG will have similar gameplay mechanics like Dark Souls with melee, parrying, backstabbing, blocking, and magic. However, the new element in the game is fighting on horseback, which could change tactics in some battles. On the other hand, the developers decided to give less importance to the stamina bar to feel less restrictive. Another new addition to combat is the stealth system.
The player will have the option to summon a spirit of friendly characters to help fight demigods that rule each area of the vast open world. The weapons will have fewer restrictions, and you can use skills with multiple weapons. There will be more than a hundred skills. FromSoftware confirmed Elden Ring would have co-op multiplayer for up to four players.
The Open-world
Elder Ringworld has six main areas, each with unique bosses and dungeons. It’s a typical Souls game world type without towns and villages. You can explore the world on foot, there is a fast travel system, and you can ride on a horse. The world has unique weather and time system.
You can find castles, catacombs, and fortresses worldwide, and later in the game, there will be a central hub similar to Firelink Shrine from Souls games.
The Plot
The plot begins after the destruction of the central Elden Ring. The pieces of Ring are scattered. The colossal world is now under the mercy of Queen Marika, the Eternal demigod descendants. They have a shard of the Ring, which corrupts them and gives them power. You play as Tarnished, exile from Lands Between. You must find all the Great Runes, restore the Ring, and you will become the Elden Lord.
It’s much easier to say it than to do it if the game will have the Dark Souls degree of difficulty. However, most gamers either love or hate Souls games, and if we dive into available information and released trailer, Elden Ring will continue the tradition.
