Bantam

The West Central Bantam Wheat Kings were on the road this weekend with three games in three nights and finished with two wins.

On Friday, they took on the third-place Prince Albert Pirates and won 7-3. On Saturday, they were in Wilcox and slammed the Notre Dame Hounds 8-1. And on Sunday, they travelled to Regina to take on the Monarchs and lost 5-3.

They have a break from their regular season schedule before hosting the Saskatoon Outlaws Jan. 21 in Rosetown.

After the weekend, the Wheat Kings have a 19-4-1 record for 39 points, tops in the North Division. The Outlaws are second with 34 points, followed by Prince Albert and the Saskatoon Generals with 31 points.

Scoring for the Wheat Kings in Friday’s game were: Eric Robbie (4), Kyle Heintz (2) and Tylin Hilbig with one.

Leading the way in scoring in Saturday’s game was Gavin Halter-Metcalf (2), with singles added by Kyle Heintz, Carter Cormier, Logan Linklater, Jakin Lawrence, Tylin Hilbig and Leighton Partington.

Scoring in Sunday’s loss were Carter Cormier, Eric Robbie and Kyle Heintz.

Peewee

The West Central Wheat Kings had a tough weekend, losing two straight to the Prince Albert Knights. But they hope to rebound this weekend with a game against the Warman Wildcats (6-8-2) Saturday at noon.

The Wheat Kings lost 6-2 in Eston on Jan. 6 and lost 2-1 in Kindersley on Jan. 7.

In Saturday’s game, the score was 1-1 after the first period and 2-1 for the Wheat Kings early in the second, but Prince Albert came back with four straight to make it 5-2 after 40 minutes and capped it off with a goal in the third.

Scoring for the Wheat Kings were Brett Bahm and Karson Blanchette.

In Sunday’s game, all the scoring was done in the first period. Karson Blanchette scored the lone goal for the Wheat Kings.

The Bantams are tied for second in the Centre Four Hockey League standings with a record of 10 wins, seven losses and one tie for 21 points. Prince Albert is first with 12 wins, two losses and one tie for 25 points.

Midget girls

The West Central Midget girls had a couple of games on the weekend against the Saskatoon Impact, who sit in third place.

They earned a 4-4 tie in Dodsland on Saturday. On Sunday in Saskatoon, they dropped a 2-1 decision.

In both games, the girls were unable to hold the leads. On Saturday, they had a 3-0 lead after the first period and in Sunday’s tilt, they were up 1-0 after two periods.

The girls have a record of 5-6-3 for 13 points, good enough for fourth place. They hope to improve on that this weekend as they take on the sixth-place Melfort Mustangs (3-9-3-9) in a two-game set in Star City on Saturday and in Melfort on Sunday.

Providing the scoring for the Wheat Kings on Saturday were Elena Smith and Keely Anderson, both with two goals each.

On Sunday, Smith, was the lone goal scorer for the Wheat Kings.
