Sask West Hockey League
The Luseland Mallards were playing a hot hand last weekend, winning both of their games, just their third and fourth of the season.
At the same time, the second-place Macklin Mohawks lost both of their games, dropping their record to 11-4-1 on the season.
Friday, the Mallards defeated the Mohawks 7-6 in overtime thanks to Joel Fischer’s goal at the 1:35 of the overtime period.
Also on Friday, the still undefeated Wilkie Outlaws (16-0) outshot the hometown Kerrobert Tigers 50-24, but only won 7-6 in overtime, thanks to Brock Harrison, who scored with 22 seconds remaining in the extra frame.
Saturday, the Mallards defeated the Tigers 7-5 in Luseland and Wilkie beat up on the Macklin Mohawks 7-2.
Current standings: 1. Wilkie, 16 wins, 0 losses, 0 overtime losses, 32 points. 2. Macklin 11-4-1-23; 3. Kindersley 15-9-4-2-20; 4. Unity 7-9-0-14; 5. Kerrobert 5-9-2-12; 6. Biggar 5-8-1-11; 7. Eatonia 3-6-4-10; 8. Luseland 4-10-0-8.
Not included in the standings is that game scheduled for Jan. 10 between Biggar and Wilkie.

Games this weekend: Friday, Luseland in Biggar; Wilkie in Macklin; and Eatonia in Kindersley. Saturday, Unity in Eatonia; Luseland in Wilkie and Biggar in Kindersley.
Top scorer heading into this week’s action, again not including the Jan. 10 game, was Kelsey Muench of the Luseland Mallards, who has 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points in just 14 games. Brock Harrison is just one point behind him with 15 goals, 33 assists for 48 points in just 15 games.
The goaltender with the best save percentage is Luke Sproule of the Kindersley Red Lions, who has an impressive .906 save percentage and a 7-3 record in 11 games. The top goaltender with 10 or more games played, according to the goals against average, is Jared Herle of the Wilkie Outlaws, who sports a 3.19 GAA and an 11-0 record.
Players with the most penalty minutes: 1. Jordan Getz, 54 PIMs in just nine games. 2. Josh Shatford, Biggar, 50 PIMs in 13 games.
Sask. Valley Hockey League
It continues to be a battle for the top of the standings in the SVHL. Five teams are within five points of each other as they fight for first place.
Heading into this week’s action, the Outlook Ice Hawks own first with 22 points in 14 games. However, the next four teams have games in hand. Kyle with 20 points, Eston with 19 and Central Butte with 18 all have played just 12 games. Beechy, in fifth spot, has 17 points with one game in hand.
This could all change after this week, with a full slate of games on tap.
Last Wednesday, Jan. 10, the Eston Ramblers were scheduled to be in Elrose. Tonight, Friday, Outlook will be in Beechy; Kenaston will visit Kyle; Loreburn will be in Delisle and Eston will be in Central Butte. Saturday’s games include Kyle in Central Butte; Elrose in Eston and Kenaston will be in Outlook. Sunday afternoon games will see Delisle travel to Beechy and Loreburn in Eston. Next Wednesday, Central Butte will travel to Loreburn.

The hottest team heading into this week’s action is the Central Butte Flyers, who have won six straight games. Outlook is next with four straight wins.

Top goaltender (save percentage) is Tyrell King of Eston, who has an impressive 0.929 save percentage.
