Three new teams to the Fertile Valley Baseball League (FVBL) this season picked up their first wins in their first games this past week.
The Oyen Eagles came out strong in their first game, earning an 8-2 win at home over the defending champion Kindersley Raiders on Tuesday.
The Outlook River Hawks defeated the Kindersley Klippers in a 16-14 offensive showdown on Monday and the Kindersley Cubs defeated the Kindersley Royals 8-3 in their regular season debut.
Cubs’ coach/manager/player Curtis Graham said that his team was excited to get their first win.
“We are definitely having some fun with this,” he said. “That’s really the main focus right now. Players have come from all over and some of the guys I don’t even really know that well, but we will see how it goes.”

The team is a definite mixture of players with six coming over from last year’s Raiders; squad; four that played midget last season and a couple of guys that came out of retirement – Heath Thornton and Trey Hintz – who haven’t played for the last few years.
One area that Graham was a bit concerned about was the pitching.
“So far, it is surprisingly good. I didn’t really know what to expect,” he said. “But things should be alright.”
He added that a late addition for the team was Landon Simmons, who is from Medicine Hat, but is working in the area for the summer and he called up Graham to see if they needed a pitcher. He closed out Monday’s win and looked pretty good, according to Graham.
“We’ve won an exhibition game and our first regular season game and the guys are staying positive and having fun,” he said.
