The West Central Wheat Kings competed in a prestigious 32-team tournament in Regina last weekend. They ended up finishing in third place (1-1-1) in their four-team pool. In the playoffs, they lost in the quarter-finals to Weyburn 4-2 to be eliminated from the competition.
They head back into the regular season with three games to play. All three will be played next weekend on the road.
They will play the Tisdale Ramblers on Feb. 9; and the Melfort Mustangs on Feb. 10 and 11.
The Wheat Kings are tied for third in the Centre Four Hockey League standings with a record of 12-7-2 for 26 points in 21 games played. They are tied with the Tisdale Ramblers, who have played 18 games and have a record of 12-4-2 for 26 points. Prince Albert leads the way with a record of 16-3-1 for 32 points with 20 games played.

Bantam
The West Central Bantams just played one regular season game last weekend, a 6-4 victory over the South Division leading Swift Current Broncos on Saturday in Kindersley.
The win improves their record to 20-5-1 for 41 points, tied with Prince Albert for second place in the North Division standings.
The Saskatoon Outlaws remain in first place with 45 points.
In Saturday’s game, goals were scored by Carter Cormier and Tylin Hilbig each with two goals and Jakin Lawrence and Eric Robbie each scored singles in this one.
Period scores: 3-1 Wheat Kings after one period; and 5-3 after two periods.
Shots on goal were 25-19 in favour of the Wheat Kings with Noah Martens picking up the win in net for the club.
The team has a busy weekend ahead with three games in three nights. They will host the Prince Albert Pirates tonight (Friday) in Macklin; the Humboldt Broncos (18-6-2) Saturday afternoon in Rosetown and the Weyburn Red Wings (6-17-1) Sunday afternoon in Rosetown again.
Midget girls
The West Central Midget AA girls came out flying in Prince Albert this past weekend outscoring the Prince Albert Fox 17-2 over two games Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday with just 10 skaters, the Wheat Kings came away with an 8-0 shutout. Goaltender Emerald Skinner stopped all 21 shots she faced.
Leading the offence were Brooklyn Rublee and Kiahna Dillabaugh each with two goals. Adding singles were Mason Weese, Kiley Jenn, Elena Smith and Kassidy Peters.
They outshot the Foxes by a count of 56-21.
In Saturday’s tilt, the Wheat Kings rolled to a 9-2 victory.
Tori Stevens picked up the win in net, stopping 26 of 28 shots in the win.
Leading the offensive barrage was the trio of Kiley Jenn, Kassidy Peters and Brooklyn Rublee, all who earned hat tricks on the night.
The Wheat Kings outshot the Foxes again, this time 53-28.
The two wins improved their record to 9-8-4 on the season for 22 points and they sit in third place in the North Sask. Female Hockey League. They are just three points behind the Saskatoon Impact and 17 points behind the first-place Saskatoon Legends and two points up on the fourth place Battlefords Sharks.
The Wheat Kings have just three games remaining on their schedule. They will host the Battlefords Sharks for a two-game set next Friday and Saturday in Dodsland. They will play them Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. Their final game will be against the Saskatoon Chargers on Feb. 11 in Saskatoon.
