Peewees
The Peewee Wheat Kings played well and finished with a win and a tie on the road last weekend.
On Saturday in Warman, they defeated the Wildcats 4-3. On Sunday, the game ended in a 6-6 draw.
The Wheat Kings are tied in the Centre Four Hockey League for second place with the Tisdale Ramblers, with each having 26 points. The Wheat Kings have a 12-7-2 record with just three games remaining. The Ramblers have six games in hand. Leading the pack is Prince Albert, with 33 points in 19 games played.
In Warman on Saturday, the Wheat Kings got behind early, as the home side scored twice in the opening frame without reply.
Cole Reschny scored the lone goal in the second to bring the Wheat Kings within one.
In the third, Dayton Reschny and Karson Blanchette teamed up to give the Wheat Kings the lead late in the game. But the game wasn’t over just yet – with just 4:41 left in the period, the Wildcats were able to find the back of the net to tie things up.
The Wheat Kings powerplay, however, would come to the rescue as Blanchette would score the team’s second power play of the night, with just one minute remaining in the game.
Tyson Borschneck picked up the win in net.

In Sunday’s tilt in Tisdale, it was the Wheat Kings who got off to a quick start, with Blanchette and Kaden Veller scoring in the first period to make it 2-0.
The teams exchanged two goals apiece in the second, with Cole Reschny and Landon Nash getting the markers for the Wheat Kings.
The Ramblers scored twice early in the third to tie things up, then Reschny and Veller would regain the lead for the Wheat Kings with 8:32 remaining in the game.
However, the Ramblers would score two more, including a goal with just 36 seconds, on the powerplay to close out the game.
Blake Sittler was in net for the Wheat Kings on this night.
The Wheat Kings will close out their season with three games Feb. 9 to 11 on the road. They will take on the Tisdale Ramblers on Feb. 9 and the Melfort Mustangs on Feb. 10 and 11.
Bantams
The West Central Bantam Wheat Kings hosted the Saskatoon Outlaws in their only game of the week, Sunday afternoon in Rosetown, and they lost a close one 5-4.
The loss means the Wheat Kings slip down a notch in the North Division standings on the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League, sitting with a record of 19-5-1 for 29 points in 25 games played. They have a game in hand on the Outlaws who have 41 points in 26 games and are tied with Prince Albert who have 41 points in 24 games.
Providing the offence in Sunday’s game were Logan Linklater, Tylin Hilbig, Gavin Halter-Metcalf and Carter Cormier.
The Wheat Kings had a 3-1 lead early in the second but were unable to hold on.
Noah Martens was in net for the Wheat Kings and held his own as his team was outshot 39-25.
The bantams play just one game this weekend, Saturday in Kindersley against the Swift Current Broncos, who are first in the North Division with a record of 19-3 for 40 points in 24 games played.
Midget girls
The midget girls had a busy weekend, playing three games in three nights on the road.
They did well, coming out with a win, loss and a tie.
They sit tied for third place in the North Sask. Female Hockey League with a record of 7-8-4 for 18 points. They are tied with the Battleford Sharks, who have 18 points in 20 games. In first are the Saskatoon Legends with 38 points in 20 games. In second are the Saskatoon Impact, who have 22 points in 18 games played so far this season.
On Friday, the midget girls held on for a 5-4 win in Melfort.
In this one, the Wheat Kings had a 2-1 lead after the first with Tylar Clappison and Keely Anderson scoring for e the squad. In the second, they expanded on this lead, with Elena Smith, Mackenzie Powers and Shaya McIvor scoring to make it 5-2.
The Sharks would come back in the final frame, to come within one, making it 5-4, but that is as close as they would come.
The Wheat Kings were outshot 34-32 in this one, with Emerald Skinner getting the win in net.
Saturday, the Saskatoon Legends showed why they are in first place. The Legends built up a 4-0 lead after two periods.
In the third, the Wheat Kings were able to find the back of the net with Kassidy Peters scoring twice, once on the powerplay and once shorthanded, and Mason Weese adding the other.
Shots on goal were 28-21 for the Legends. Tori Stevens was in net for the Wheat Kings.
In Sunday’s tie, the teams were knotted at one with Brooklyn Rublee scoring for the Wheat Kings.
In the second frame, the Sharks scored twice and had a 3-1 lead late in the period, before Rublee scored her second with 1:49 left in the frame to come within one.
Elena Smith would score the lone goal of the third to tie things up.
Shots on goal were 37-31 in favour of the Wheat Kings. Skinner was in net for the in this one.
The Wheat Kings will play a couple of times this weekend against the Prince Albert Foxes. They play on Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon to wrap up January.
