The West Central Wheat Kings won two straight games heading into the Christmas break to improve their position in the Centre Four Hockey League.

The Wheat Kings defeated the Battlefords’ Barons 15-2 in Unity Dec. 20 and the Warman Wildcats, 4-2 on Dec. 21 in Macklin.

The wins improve their record to 10-5-1 for 21 points this season. They sit in third place, but in a four-way tie with points with Prince Albert, Tisdale, and Humboldt.

Goal-scorers for the Wheat Kings on Dec. 20 were Noah Duerksen (3); Dayton Reschny (2), Cole Reschny (2), Landon Nash (2) and singles by Boston Dipple, Kaden Veller, Carter Ralson, Brett Bahm, Austin Shepherd and Ethan Sautner.

Scoring in the game against Warman were: Duerksen (2) and singles by Shepherd and Sautner.

The Wheat Kings have a league-best 124 goals for after 16 games played and a plus-57 goal differential.

Following the Christmas break, the Wheat Kings will take on the very tough Prince Albert Gene’s Cycle Knights in a two-game set.

They will be in Eston Jan. 6 at 12:30 p.m. and on the following day they will host them in Kindersley beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Leading the scoring race for the Wheat Kings is Austin Shepherd, who has 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points.

Landon Nash is second with 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points and Cole Reschny is third with 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points.

Bantams

The West Central Wheat Kings are on a hot streak, having won their last six games and sit on top of the standings in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League North Division with 17 wins, three losses and one tie, for 35 points.

Just prior to the Christmas break, the Wheat Kings defeated the Battlefords Barons 9-2 on Dec. 22 in Macklin. On Saturday, Dec. 23, they defeated the Warman Wildcats, 3-1 in Warman.

Leading the way in scoring for the Wheat Kings on Dec. 22 was Tylin Hilbig with a hat trick. Kayden Ostrom and Kyle Heintz, each chipped in two goals and Eric Robbie and Ethan Hilbig added singles.

In the Warman game, Jakin Lawrence, Robbie and Heintz provided the offence in the win.

Leading the scoring race for the Wheat Kings is Logan Linklater, who has 14 goals and 29 assists for 43 points in just 21 games. Second is Tylin Hilbig with 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points in 21 games.

The Wheat Kings return to their regular season schedule with three games in three nights. They will be in Prince Albert (15-2-1) Jan. 5; in Wilcox (6-14-1) Jan. 6 and in Regina (9-7-1), Jan. 7.

Midget girls

The midget girls headed into the Christmas break in third place in the North Sask Female Hockey League with a record of five wins, five losses and two ties for 12 points.

The team will get back to regular season, as they host the fourth-place Saskatoon Impact (4-4-3) in Dodsland Jan. 6 and they will be in Saskatoon, Jan. 7 to take on the same Impact team.

Leading the team in scoring is Brooklyn Rublee, who has nine goals, seven assists for 16 points. Second is Elena Smith with five goals, eight assists in 13 points.
