The Wheat Kings will take on Tisdale in the Centre Four Hockey League semifinals.

They were scheduled to play last night in Star City, followed by game two this Saturday afternoon in Kindersley and, if necessary, game three will be played Sunday in Tisdale.

The Wheat Kings recently defeated the Melfort Mustangs in three games.

In the latest game, played in Kindersley on Sunday, the Wheat Kings won, by a score of 7-2.

Kaden Veller led the offence with two goals and singles were added by Boston Dipple, Karson Blanchette, Landon Nash, Dayton Reschny and Keagan Nash.

Blake Sittler was in net for the Wheat Kings.

In the second game of the series played in Melfortnon Saturday, the Wheat Kings fell behind 3-0 early in the game and had to claw their way back.

Cole Reschny scored the lone goal for the Wheat Kings in the first two periods. The score was 4-1 for the Mustangs headed into the final frame.

Colby Mathers would score for the Mustangs at the 17:47 mark. The Mustangs responded again to make it 5-2.

But cue the comeback. Brett Bahm would score at the 6:45 mark, followed by goals from Carter Ralston and Austin Shepherd to tie things up and send the game into overtime.

It would take two overtime periods, before this game was decided, on the power play at the 10:20 mark of the period.

Blake Sittler was in net for this one.

Game one of this series was played in Kindersley on Feb. 18th with the Wheat Kings coming out on top, 6-2.

The offence was provided by Landon Nash (2) with singles added by Boston Dipple, Kaden Veller, Brett Bahm and Cole Reschny. Blake Sittler picked up the win in net.

Bantam

The West Central Wheat Kings are moving on after defeating the North East Wolfpack in two straight games last week. They now wait to find out who their next opponent will be in the North Division semifinals.

Sunday in Melfort, they closed out the series with a 4-2 victory.

In the first, the Wolfpack got on the board first at the 15:36 mark of the period. However, the Wheat Kings’ Kyle Heintz and Levi Brewer would score 28 seconds apart, giving their team a 2-1 lead. The Wolfpack would add another late in the period to tie things up.

In the second, Kyle Heintz and Carter Cormier would score the winner and the insurance goal to put the game away.

Noah Martens was in net for the Wheat Kings in this one.

In Kerrobert last Friday in game one, they squeezed out a 5-4 win, despite a late comeback by the Wolfpack.

Carter Cormier and Kyle Heintz were the goal-scorers in the first period and they held a 2-1 lead.

In the second, Cormier scored his second of the game and Tylin Hilbig added another and they built up a 4-2 lead heading into the third.

Eric Robbie scored unassisted early on to make it 5-2.

But the Wolfpack would score on the power play at the 8:14 mark and added one more with just 55 seconds remaining to make things interesting.

Shots on goal were 37-30 in favour of the Wolfpack. Noah Martens was in net for the home side.

Female Midget AA

The West Central Wheat Kings are headed to the second round.

It took three games, but the Wheat Kings defeated the Melfort Mustangs in three games to advance to the second round of playoffs in the North Sask Female Hockey League.

They will now play the Saskatoon Impact in the second round – no dates had beeen finalized prior to press time.

The Wheat Kings won game three Sunday in Kindersley with a comeback win.

The Mustangs had a 2-1 lead after the first period in this game, with Kiley Jenn scoring the lone goal for the Wheat Kings.

Brooklyn Rublee scored in the second to tie things up, but the Mustangs were able to respond with a goal of there own to re-take the lead.

But it was all West Central in the third with Tylar Clappison and Elena Smith scoring to get the win.

The Wheat Kings outshot the Mustangs 33-28 in this game with Tori Stevens picking up the win in the crease for the Wheat Kings.

Saturday in Dodsland, in game two, the Wheat Kings scored three unanswered, all on the power play, in the third period to capture the win.

Brooklyn Rublee actually stared off the scoring, getting one early for the Wheat Kings. The Mustangs did respond with a goal by the end of the period.

In the second, the Mustangs scored the lone marker to take a 2-1 lead.

In the third, goals from Elena Smith, Kassidy Peters and Brooklyn Rublee, gave the Wheat Kings a 4-2 lead with just 3:16 remaining in the game.

The Mustangs would score one more by the end of the period, but could not get any farther.

The Wheat Kings, as previously mentioned, scored three power play goals in the third – they only had five opportunities – making of a 60 per cent success rate – not bad at all.

The Mustangs outshot the Wheat Kings in this one, 34-27 with Tori Stevens getting the win in net for the black and gold.

In game one of this series played in Melfort Feb. 21st, it took two period of overtime for the home side, but they were able to squeak out a win.

MacKenzie Powers, Mason Weese (2), Brooklyn Rublee provided the offence for the Wheat Kings who outshot the Mustangs 59-42 in this one. Tori Stevens, was in net for this marathon.

In the other semifinals, the Saskatoon Legends will take on the Saskatoon Chargers, starting with game one this Sunday.
