The Kindersley byelection takes place next Thursday and eligible voters will have five additional days of advanced voting to cast ballots starting with today.

The advanced polls will be held from Feb. 23 to 27. The advanced voting takes place on Feb. 23, 26 and 27 from 3 to 10 p.m., and Feb. 24 and 25 from noon to 7 p.m. There are six urban centres throughout the constituency where the advanced polls are located.

Advanced polls are located at the AGT Community Centre in Eston, Kerrobert Seniors Hall, Caleb Village in Kindersley, Macklin Communiplex, Major Centennial Hall, and the Tramping Lake Community Hall. People could also go to the Elections Saskatchewan website at www.elections.sk.ca for more information.

The byelection takes place on March 1 and the polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are a total of 43 polls in 20 communities including Macklin, Denzil, Reward, Tramping Lake, Landis, Handel, Kerrobert, Luseland, Major, Coleville, Dodsland, Brock, Kindersley, Flaxcombe, Marengo, Eatonia, Glidden and Eston. People could view the byelection proclamation on the Elections Saskatchewan website.

Registered, eligible voters can vote at any one of the advanced polls at any time. If people wait until March 1 to cast a ballot, they will have to vote at a specific poll and their polls will be indicated on a voter information card (VIC).

If registered voters have not received their VIC in the mail, they are asked to contact Elections Saskatchewan by phone at 1-877-958-8683 or online through the website. People have an opportunity to register to vote at the advanced polls or byelection polls if they are eligible, but it will take them longer to cast a ballot. People should have received a VIC in the mail by Feb. 20 if already registered.

In order to vote, people have to present one piece of approved photo identification with their names and addresses or two pieces of accepted identification such as a birth certificate and a utility bill. A list of accepted identification is available on the website.

To be eligible to vote, a person has to be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old, have lived in Saskatchewan since Aug. 2, 2017 and ordinarily be a resident of the constituency where the byelection is taking place.polls
