The Wilkie Outlaws have dominated the Sask West Hockey League (SWHL) since 2015 and the four-time defending champions are off to another strong start.

All six SWHL teams saw game action on the league’s opening weekend of the 2018-19 season. Four teams played two games last weekend including the defending champion Outlaws. Wilkie has started with a pair of wins and the Outlaws are still be the team to beat.

The Kindersley Sr. Klippers are the only other undefeated team after the league’s opening weekend, but Kindersley was one of two teams that only played one game. The Biggar Nationals, Luseland Mallards and Unity Miners all played twice last weekend. The Macklin Mohawks were the other team to play once.

Wilkie, a team that has won the SWHL championship every season since joining the league at the start of the 2014-15 season, opened the season at home on Nov. 2 with a 12-4 win against Luseland. The Outlaws also hosted Macklin on Nov. 3, and Wilkie won the game by a score of 9-4.

Biggar travelled to Unity in the only other game on the league’s opening night of Nov. 2, and the road team picked up a big win doubling up the Miners by a score of 6-3. In other SWHL action on Nov. 3, the Klippers defeated the Nationals in Biggar by a score of 4-3 and the Miners defeated the Mallards in Unity by a score of 8-3.

The Outlaws sit atop the standings with four points while Kindersley, Biggar and Unity all picked up two points. The Mallards are off to a rough start at 0-2, but the team is only two games into a 20-game schedule.

Luseland and Macklin will look to pick up their first wins this weekend. As for game action this weekend, Kindersley is in Luseland on Nov. 9 starting at 8:30, and Unity is in Biggar, Wilkie is in Luseland and Kindersley is in Macklin on Nov. 10 with all games starting at 8 p.m.
