The playoffs kick off in high gear this weekend with teams battling for Sask West Hockey League supremacy and provincial playoffs getting underway.

Here’s how the league playoffs shape up:

  • Wilkie vs Luseland, Game 1 in Wilkie Feb. 2 at 8:30 p.m.; Game 2 in Luseland Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. If necessary, game three will be played in Wilkie Feb. 9 at 8:30 p.m.
  • Kindersley vs Biggar, Game 1 in Biggar Feb. 1 at 8:30 p.m.; Game 2 in Kindersley Feb. 2 at 8:30 p.m. Game 3 if necessary, will be played Feb. 7 in Kindersley at 8:30 p.m.
  • Unity vs Eatonia, Game 1 in Eatonia Feb. 2 at 8:30 p.m.; Game 2 in Unity Feb. 10 at 8 p.m.; Game 3 in Eatonia Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.
  • Kerrobert vs Macklin, no dates have been posted.

The Wilkie Outlaws
are SWHL champions, going
19-1 this season. With their
only blemish coming at the hands
of the Unity Miners in this game
played last Friday.

It was a wild and wacky ending to the 2017-18 season as Wilkie dropped its first game of the season to Unity on Friday night and on Saturday, the Red Lions and Mallards combined for 126 shots in a 9-8 shootout win for the visiting Red Lions.

Last weekend: Jan. 26 – Macklin 1 in Biggar 4; Luseland 1 in Eatonia 8; Wilkie 5 in Unity 9; and Kerrobert 7 in Kindersley 4. Jan. 27 – Unity 6 in Biggar 4; Kerrobert 4 in Eatonia 5; and Kindersley 9 in Luseland 8 in a shootout.

Final standings: 1. Wilkie 19 wins, 1 loss, 0 overtime losses for 38 points; 2. Macklin 12-7-1-25; 3. Kindersley 11-7-2-24; 4. Eatonia 9-7-4-22; 5. Unity 9-10-1-19; 6. Biggar 9-10-1-19; 7. Kerrobert 7-11-2-16; 8. Luseland 4-15-1-9.

Scoring race: The top points getter in this season goes to Kelsey Muench of the Luseland Mallards, who racked up 18 goals and 49 assists for 67 points in 20 games. In second was Brock Harrison of Wilkie, who had 17 goals and 47 assists for 64 points.
Top goal scorer on the season was Josh Shatford of Biggar who had 26 goals in 19 games played.

Top goaltender: in games played and save percentage goes to Lane Michasiw of the Eatonia Huskies, who was a workhorse and played in 18 games and sported a 0.897 save percentage and has helped the team to win six straight heading into the playoffs.

Senior A

  • Wilkie vs Hillmond, Feb. 10 in Wilkie; Feb. 17 in Hillmond. Feb. 18 in Wilkie if necessary.
  • Kindersley vs Shaunavon, Feb. 4 in Kindersley; Feb. 9 in Shaunavon; Feb. 11 in Shaunavon if necessary.

Senior B

  • Biggar vs Beechy, Game 1 in Beechy March 2; Game 2 in Biggar March 3.
  • Unity vs Eston, Feb. 9 in Eston; Feb. 17 in Unity.

Senior C

  • Eatonia vs winner of Hodgeville and Gull Lake to be completed by March 5.
  • Macklin vs Hafford, Jan. 30 in Hafford; Feb. 17 in Macklin.
  • Kerrobert vs Lanigan, Feb. 3 in Lanigan; Feb. 17 in Kerrobert.
